8 mph Mobility Scooters – “Class 3”
Class 3 Mobility Scooters with an upper speed limit of 8 mph are for both pavement and road use. It is important to remember that it is not legal to drive at over 4 mph when on a pavement. There is normally a switch on a Class 3 Mobility Scooter to limit the speed to 4 mph when being used on a pavement.
8 mph Mobility Scooters are usually larger than 4 mph versions, are fitted with suspension and have a greater mileage range. They also have a higher weight carrying capacity and can tackle more challenging terrain. They come complete with front and rear lights, direction indicators, a horn and a rear view mirror so that they can legally be used on the road.
While there is no legal requirement to have an insurance policy for a Mobility Scooter, we highly recommend that you purchase one in case of accident or injury. There are a number of insurance companies that specialise in insurance policies for mobility vehicles and we can help point you in the right direction.
Road Tax
Class 3, 8 mph Mobility Scooters must be registered with DVLA.
